Prioritize function first
Identify the biggest everyday constraints: not enough prep area, hard-to-reach storage, poor lighting, an awkward refrigerator door swing or a cramped path through the room.
Use storage deliberately
Tall pantry storage, drawer bases, corner solutions and better cabinet interiors can improve capacity without expanding the room.
Keep circulation in mind
Islands and peninsulas are not automatically improvements in a compact room. The best choice is the one that preserves useful movement while adding meaningful work or seating space.
Bring the scope together before construction
The more a project touches cabinets, counters, appliances, flooring, lighting, plumbing or layout, the more valuable early coordination becomes. A clear scope gives everyone a better basis for discussing feasibility, sequence and priorities.
